Warplanes of the Saudi-led coalition once again targeted and destroyed a mosque in Yemen’s northern province of al-Jawf after the Arabian Peninsula country’s troops managed to repel a ground attack by the coalition forces in the district.

Forces of the Yemeni army and popular committees repulsed a massive attack by the Saudi-led forces in al-Ghayl District in al-Jawf on Friday, the Arabic-language al-Ahed news website reported.

Dozens of the Saudi-led forces were killed and a number of their vehicles were destroyed in the counterattack by the Yemeni troops, according to the report.

After the fierce clashes, Saudi fighter jets bombarded residential areas in Ghayl District eight times, destroying the main mosque of the district.

Yemen’s defenseless people have been under massive attacks by the coalition led by the Saudi regime for nearly 17 months but Riyadh has reached none of its objectives in Yemen so far.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been launching deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

Nearly 9,400 Yemenis, including 4,000 women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.
