The north’s biggest mosque, the Hala Sultan Mosque, which aims to house 7,500 people is near to completion.

The construction – which is being undertaken by the Turkish Religious Foundation – should be finished by the end of the year.

The foundations were first laid in September 2013 and its architecture is based on the Selimiye Mosque in Edirne in Turkey. The structure will have a complex of buildings which can be used as classrooms, a multi-functional hall, a dining hall and cafeteria.

The building as well as its grounds, aims to house 7,500 people. The four minarets are approximately 62 meters high; the outside of the building is covered in natural stone and its domes are made of lead.

It is estimated to cost around $30 million dollars some of which has been donated.
