Istanbul: Kitty-loving imam opens doors of mosque to stray cats

Mustafa Efe opens the doors of Aziz Mahmud Hudayi Mosque in Istanbul to stray cats, so that the felines can escape the cold weather.

Felines have long ruled the web, and according to internet denizens, the only thing cuter than a cat is a kitten. Thus, when the imam of an Istanbul mosque posted a video, which showed a mother cat carrying her babies in her mouth, the internet exploded.

The video, which was posted on Facebook, shows the cat carrying one of her kittens in her mouth and taking it into the mosque and then proceeding to the pulpit, where her other babies are hidden from prying eyes.

Countless shares later, Mustafa Efe, the imam of the Aziz Mahmud Hudayi Mosque, has become famous across the web. Well-known locally for being cat-friendly, Efe’s photographs are now all over the web, published by those who go to his mosque.

According to visitors, the imam has also started opening the doors of his mosque for stray cats, so that the felines can escape the cold weather. The Imam is also known to share photos of the cats on his social media account.

According to a post shared on social media, the imam said, “Our mosque’s Friday guests, a surprise awaiting us at the sermon today. The kitty has found the heart of compassion and mercy…”
