Special guests including the Mayor of Ipswich, Bill Quinton and Labour parliamentary candidate, David Ellesmere made an appearance at the Ipswich and Suffolk Bangladeshi Muslim Community and Mosque Centre on Wednesday to learn more about the Muslim community in the town.
Abdul Motlib, chairman of the Ipswich Mosque Committee, said: “There are currently a lot of things happening in this world which has raised fear about Islam so we opened up the mosque so people can come and see and ask and get a better understanding of each other.
“Some people have never been to the mosque and they just go from what they hear in the media. It’s a wonderful thing to come and see and experience it for themselves.”
The Ipswich mosque has been open since 1984 and the committee is now hoping to draw in more visitors.
Mr Motlib said the mosque was not just open to Muslims and that everyone was welcome.
